How to Brew/Use

Our brewing recommendations are below, but feel free to prepare your brew to suit your preference! Your main considerations should be water quality and temperature, tea quantity, and steeping time.

We recommend using 1 tea bag per 8 oz of water at a full rolling boil (212°F) and steeping anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes. Teas prepared from light, delicate blossoms or leaves require shorter steeping times than more hearty herbs. If you prefer a stronger brew, we suggest using multiple tea bags.

These steps provide a sweeter, better tasting brew while repeated infusions allow you to extract all the nutritional and medicinal benefits from the herb. Herbal teas can be brewed in porcelain, ceramic, glass, or stainless steel vessels, but never in aluminum or other harmful materials. Be sure to cover the cup or teapot while steeping to prevent the loss of fragrant essential oils and other therapeutic and nutritional elements.

Side Effects/Allergens

Product name

Simply Natural Organic Turmeric Ginger Root Herbal Tea

As with any food or drug, when consumed in excess, turmeric tea could cause liver damage in those who already prone to liver disease. It could also affect you if you have gallbladder disease, are taking blood thinners, medications for diabetes, or stomach acid reducers. Drinking excessive amounts of turmeric tea can also cause circulatory problems. Pregnant women are advised to control consumption as it could stimulate the uterus.

Ginger is also generally safe, but some side effects may be experienced if consumed in excess (approximately 4 grams or greater). The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) notes that ginger may cause gas and bloating, abdominal pain/stomachache, or diarrhea. Ginger can increase bile production, so it is a good idea to check with your doctor before consuming ginger tea if you have a history of gallbladder problems.

Drinking ginger tea may also trigger heartburn or stomach upset, similar to the response you might experience after eating spicy foods. Ginger may help lower blood pressure, so lightheadedness is another potential side effect. Ginger also contains salicylates, which can be contraindicated for those with bleeding disorders.
